Q.   What is Pilates?
A. A Pilates is a system of exercises designed by the late Joseph Pilates in the 1920's. This method, originally called "contrology" by Pilates himself focused on controlled movements with specific breathing patterns, the focus of the method being on sequencing movement through the body utilizing the "powerhouse". The "powerhouse" according to Joseph Pilates consisted of the muscles of the inner thigh, buttocks, and abdominals.
