| I have been suffering from back pain since my first sciatica at the age of 37 years old. I would never forget the debilitating pain that actually landed me in the hospital for 3 days. They tried to do traction then, gave me the old conventional medication, anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant medicine, but in vain.
I came back home and was bedridden for 3 weeks, impossible to put any kind of pressure on my right side. I had to walk with the help of a cane then just to go to the bathroom...a nightmare, especially having to take care of two young children at the same time.
Therefore, I swore to myself that I would do everything in my power to NEVER be in that situation again.
I went to see a chiropractor to see if he could help me feel better. After a few sessions with him, I didn't think that it was helping me.
Then, I tried acupuncture sessions which ease somewhat during the session, but never felt the relief that I was expecting to get from it.
Then, after several sciatica flare ups, I went back to my orthopedist who prescribed some more pain medication and more physical therapy.
On and off, I was getting SO frustrated and disgusted that I almost gave up, tried to just tough it up, accept it and try to negate all the symptoms that I was experiencing hoping that one day they would go away.
Every night I would go to bed hoping that the next morning, the stiffness and pressure would have gone away, but every morning, I actually was scared to get up, because I knew that the pain had not gone away.
After living with the constant lower back pressure and pain, I had to limit myself to how long I would be staying up, or sitting, because I just didn't want to hurt any longer.
However, one day, an angel was sent to me. I was chatting at the nail salon with a lady who had experienced the same thing. She then proceeded to tell me that she went to Pilates class, and that is the only thing that has helped her tremendously.
I was very skeptical, because I had tried everything that I could possibly try, but I decided to give it a try, I had NOTHING to loose anyway.
When I moved to Florida two and half years ago. I was fortunate to meet a wonderful and dedicated instructor, just 5 minutes from my home. Matthew listened to what I experienced, understood what I had been going throughout for all those years.
Because he is such a perfectionist and knowledgeable instructor I was able to trust him completely. My lower back pressure subsided with every week passing by, I was able to regain my mobility and flexibility with my daily activities.
Upon DR Leponis advice from the Canyon Ranch in the Bershires, I am happy to report that since my last physical from 2 years ago, I actually grew half an inch taller ! Not bad after you have reached 50 !!!
I am able to walk 50 blocks along the beach, go bowling with my friends, sit at the movie theater, and more importantly, I feel great. Thank you to my special instructor Matthew, I am eternally greateful ! |

| I have been doing various types of Pilates since 1990 however the Stott Pilates taught at South Beach Pilates can't be beat. The exercises concentrate on the whole spine at the same time as addressing balance and core strength. I practice weekly and I always look forward to my next session. The exercises have also improved my performance when I compete in Triathlons. My sessions now are even more important as I am working hard for the Maccabiah games. Another benefit to going to South Beach Pilates is the exceptional instructors and the beautiful studio. |
